Two of Harness Racing Victoria's biggest Team Teal supporters have been selected to rub shoulders with the best women drivers in the country next month.

Kate Gath and Kerryn Manning will represent the state at the Australian Female Drivers Championship in Tasmania on March 21.

Seven heats have been programmed on the twilight card at Launceston, with drivers to battle it out for overall honours.

Gath, who is fresh off Group 1 glory in the Great Southern Star series aboard champion trotter Tornado Valley, said it would be an enjoyable trip south.

"I've been before and it's really good," she said.

"It's always good to catch up with the other girls... we get to catch-up and have a little get-together and do what we like doing."

It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Manning, who has recently brought up her 4000th success in the sulky and been honoured by having the female drivers' room at Tabcorp Park Melton named in her honour.

Like Gath, Manning has previously represented the state at the Australian Female Drivers Championship and said it was an enjoyable experience filled with some friendly competitiveness.

“It’s something different to go and do and it’s a bit of a day out,” she said.

“It’s great. I do enjoy them.”

At the conclusion of Wednesday night’s Shepparton meeting - after Donna Castles, Juanita Breen, Kate Gath and Tayla French all landed wins – HRV’s Team Teal total had swelled to $3800.

The joint venture between HRV and the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group sees all female drivers in Victoria wear teal pants to raise awareness and much-needed funds for ovarian cancer research and programs. For every winner they pilot, HRV and wagering partner Tabcorp commit $200 each to deliver $400 towards key initiatives.

The campaign, which this year runs between February 1 and March 14, began in Victoria in 2014 and now covers all Australian states, as well as New Zealand.

Joining Gath and Manning as HRV Team Teal ambassadors in 2021 are Jodi Quinlan and Jackie Barker.
