NSW trainer-driver KerryAnn Morris will be hoping to do a smash and grab when she launches an assault on the Neatline Homes Shepparton Pacing Cup with Kanena Provlima and Petes Said So.

Both horses have had a solid preparation heading into Saturday’s $75,000 feature.

“He’s (Kanena Provlima) been really good,” Morris said. “He’s had a really good campaign in Queensland through the Inter Dominion. Both of the horses went to Bathurst on Boxing Day for the Shirley Turnbull Memorial.

“Kanena Provlima had a really good run, but he just made a mistake on the last corner, and we can’t really put our finger on what he actually he did. It was really out of character.

“Petes Said So pulled up with a foot abscess after it so he has come through that really well. We are hopeful for a better run tomorrow night.”

Morris is hoping that the Neatline Homes Shepparton Pacing Cup can be a springboard for bigger and better things in 2024.

“We just saw this race come up and both these horses have been racing really well at the higher level. I think they deserve their shot to race in these kinds of races,” Morris said.

“If they perform well, they may be able to go on to races such as the Hunter Cup or races that are bigger and prominent in Victoria.”

Both of the 34-year-old trainer’s geldings have drawn on the front row, with Kanena Provlima four and Petes Said So six. Last week’s Bendigo Cup winner Max Delight (11) will start on the second row.

“I think you have got the one (Curly James) and the three (La Captain) who have got good gate speed,” Morris said.

“Your real main dangers are on the second line. We are probably both going to head forward and try and put ourselves into the race. We are going to go forward and see what happens.”

KerryAnn will drive Kanena Provlima while Joshua Gallagher will take the reins of Petes Said So.

“I don’t really think our horses are horses you can really make several moves in the race,” she said.

“They are both kind of opportunist horses.”

The Neatline Homes Shepparton Pacing Cup is at 9.07pm.

The good oil from the Vic trials circuit

Shepparton, R4 N5, Sergeant Lou
At Shepparton on December 28,SERGEANT LOU created a huge impression with his runaway victory in the opening trial. He showed good gate speed from barrier four to find the lead, ran along at a rapid rate and rushed away from his rivals to win by a large margin. He hasn’t started since a seventh in the Super Series Final and looks set for a big campaign. REPORT & REPLAY
Shepparton, R7 N8, Dessie Gee
At Shepparton on November 30, DESSIE GEE hadn’t raced since a fourth at Swan Hill back in October 2022. He appeared to be somewhere near his peak form at the trials, however, considering he settled last of the five runners, moved into the one-out-and-one-back trail at the 500m and finished off fast in slick final sectionals to beat a strong field. REPORT & REPLAY
Shepparton, R9 N3, Fellini
At Shepparton on November 30, FELLINI continued her impressive trial form with a runaway success in the opening event. She was without cover early, pressed forward to find the lead and ran away at the end to win by approximately ten lengths. REPORT & REPLAY
